The Samsung Galaxy S23 and the iPhone 14 are two compact flagships that, refurbished, sell for similar prices. The big question isn't so much which one is "better" as which ecosystem you prefer: Android or iPhone.

Display: the Galaxy S23 wins
The S23's 120 Hz shows when you scroll social media or websites: everything feels smoother. The iPhone 14's display is excellent for colour and brightness, but stays at 60 Hz.
Camera: it depends on what you shoot
- Galaxy S23: its 3x telephoto lets you get closer without losing quality, ideal for gigs, kids playing or faraway details.
- iPhone 14: natural colours, a very good night mode and some of the best video on the market.
Performance: both have plenty to spare
The S23's Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is newer and more powerful, but in everyday use both are smooth, even with games.
Battery and charging
Both last a day with normal use. The S23 has the advantage of USB-C: the same cable as your laptop or tablet. With any refurbished phone, check the battery health.
Updates
Samsung promised the S23 series four major Android updates and five years of security updates. Apple usually supports its iPhones for many years. Both are recent enough to have years of support left.
Which should you choose?
- Choose the Galaxy S23 if you want the smoothest display, optical zoom and USB-C, or if you already use Android.
- Choose the iPhone 14 if you already own other Apple products (Mac, iPad, Apple Watch, AirPods), if you shoot a lot of video or if your family uses iPhones and often helps you out.
