The AirPods Pro 3 launched in September 2025 and, unusually, at a lower price than the AirPods Pro 2 had at launch. If you're thinking of giving them as a present (or treating yourself), here are the differences that matter.
What they have in common
- Active noise cancelling and Adaptive Transparency.
- A case you can track in the Find My app.
- Spatial audio and automatic switching between Apple devices.
- They work with Android as Bluetooth earbuds, but shine with an iPhone.
The differences that matter
Noise cancelling
Apple says the Pro 3's is clearly better than the Pro 2's. On the Tube, on a plane or in the office, it's what you'll notice most.
Battery
According to Apple, the Pro 3 last up to 8 hours with noise cancelling on, versus up to 6 hours for the Pro 2.
Heart-rate sensor
The Pro 3 include a heart-rate sensor to track your pulse while you train, no watch needed.
Resistance
The Pro 3 are rated IP57: they handle sweat and water better than the Pro 2.

New or refurbished?
With earbuds, hygiene and battery matter most. If you buy refurbished AirPods Pro 2, make sure they come with new ear tips and check the warranty. With the Pro 3 at £219 new and often discounted, always compare: sometimes the gap is small and buying new makes sense.
Our verdict
- For almost everyone: AirPods Pro 3. They cost less than the Pro 2 at launch and improve on everything that matters.
- If you find refurbished Pro 2 very cheap (with new ear tips and a warranty), they're still a great buy.
